Smooth Jazz Concert at Intercontinental Nairobi lives up to the bill

NAIROBI September 11, 2010 - Smooth Jazz and Neo  Soul  fans were last weekend treated to an exciting  concert at the Intercontinental Hotel in Nairobi where celebrated musicians comprising UK’s Omar, Denmark’s Jonas and American Honey la Rochelle staged a spectacular performance.




The concert, which was organized by local radio Capital FM, events Company Smoove Music and the Intercontinental Hotel Nairobi, took place on Saturday night.

Characterized by resounding enthusiasm and regular ‘sing-along’ from the mostly upper and middle-class crowd, the musicians lived up to the expectations ; often thrilling the jolly audience to a point of frenzy cheers.
Having started a bit late, and at a cost of 1,500 shillings at the door, many were anxious about how successful the concert would be by a few hours into the concert and not even the time-conscious professional would glance at the wrist watches.
The highly-energized, but smoothly harmonized, performance by the trio became a talk of the night with many revelers recounting the unforgettable treat as they yearned for more.
Intercontinental Hotel’s Area Sales and Marketing Director, Mr. Daniel Ebo who attended the concert said:  “this has been a very exciting concert ad we are happy to have been part of this event.”
The celebrated musician Omar, who hails from the UK is well known for his smooth music and has  recorded 6 studio albums, the last being Sing (If you want it) which was released in 2006 and features Stevie Wonder, Angie Stone, Estelle, Common, and many others.

His earlier work has led to collaborations with Erykah Badu, Incognito, Legendary Motown producers Leon Ware + Lamont Dozier, and many others and has performed throughout Europe, North America and Asia.

USA born Honey La Rochelle, on the other hand, is a renowned Funk / Rock / Soul musician based in New York. Her voice has graced over 200 song recordings spanning all genres and has performed with music icons such as Roberta Flack, Brand New Heavies, Macy Gray, Donna Summer and Joss Stone among many others.

Similarly, the Danish musician Jonas has 2 studio albums the last being WAITT (We are in this together) which was released in 2009. His first studio album Sweet Dreams Guaranteed was listed in the top 25 soul releases in UK Magazine Echoes, and essential album of the month in Blues & Soul Magazine. He has Performed throughout Europe & North America

Organizers of the event held that the show was aimed at exploring new grounds in entertainment as it brought together three different musicians from three different countries at the same time.
“This tour has brought together 3 sets of renowned international musicians from USA, UK, and Europe which has not been done in the market before,” said Mr. Heri Bomani, the show organizer.
