DEEP HEAT TO SUPPORT KENYA ATHLETICS FOR SOCIAL CAUSES THROUGH HENRY WANYOIKE FOUNDATION


NAIROBI, Kenya:  Saturday  9, 2018:  Leading Pharmaceutical company Rohto Mentholatum (K) Limited has affirmed its commitment to support Athletics in Kenya for social causes.  Through the Henry Wanyoike Foundation, Rohto Mentholatum has announced plans to accelerate its social responsibility program around its flagship brand Deep Heat, with the view of  impacting many lives across Kenya.

During this year’s Hope for The Future Run (12th edition),  Rohto Mentholatum Kenya  onboarded Deep Freeze (a cold therapy variant) into the partnership  and  will focus on promoting healthier lifestyles among the young  and old.

“We want to encourage Kenyans to live healthy, by adopting active lifestyles as well as engaging in sporting activities that are tied to social causes,” said Ms. Fumiko Akojima, Rohto Mentholatum (K) Ltd’s Country Director for Kenya. 
Ms. Akojima noted that the company, through its local partner, Harley’s Limited, has identified various activities within athletics that require support and will be reaching out to stakeholders for consultations and possible collaboration.
“ We want to cultivate a culture of competition right from schools  so that every young child has a positive outlook  about life and endeavors to put in their best, whether in studies or sports,” Ms. Akojima added.
Celebrated marathoner Henry Wanyoike, who is the organizer of the event, lauded the company’s initiative and  undertook to guide the company on pertinent issues within the Athletics industry in Kenya to ensure success is achieved.
“We are glad that Rohto Mentholatum group has shown commitment in supporting athletics in Kenya and we want to work together with them to improve talent development among the young people and persons living with disabilities,” said Mr.  Wanyoike.
British High Commissioner to Kenya Mr. Nic Hailey, who graced the event indicated that the United Kingdom will next month co-chair a disability summit with Kenya in a bid to champion the rights of disabled people.
“People with disabilities around the world continue to face stigma, discrimination and all  too often miss out on the opportunities that are the right of every person. But given the right support, people with disability have so much to offer our society,” said Mr. Hailey.
Rohto Mentholatum Group  is the second largest pharmaceutical in Japan has donated in excess of KES 5 million is support of the  Marathon since the beginning of the partnership with the Henry Wanyoike Foundation.  
The 12th edition of the Hope for the Future Marathon attracted more than 5000 participants drawn from all walks of life.  The marathon involves  a 1.5 km race for children, 7.5km  for physically challenged  and a Juniors  and seniors categories of 7.5km each.   The highlight  of the event is a  3km run for veteran athletes.
 “We are working with relevant ministries  to support persons with disability to enable them access basic but improved amenities,” Mr. Wanyoike quipped.
