UBA BANK PARTNERS WITH POSTBANK TO ROLL OUT AGENCY BANKING TO INCREASE PRESENCE ACROSS KENYA

Nairobi, KE November 26, 2013 – Pan - African Financial Services provider UBA Kenya Bank has rolled out agency banking services in partnership with the Kenya Post Office Savings Bank’s (Postbank) Kenswitch - enabled platform in a new bid to increase presence across the country and meet the rising demand for its services.



Speaking during the launch of the service, UBA Kenya Bank CEO, Mr. Tunji Adeniyi said the bank is targeting to aggressively grow its customer numbers by providing world – class financial services that will translate into quality life for its customers.

Mr. Adeniyi said: "Our partnership with Postbank is a harbinger for greater innovation that UBA Kenya bank will continuously unveil for this market. We want to provide the business community in Kenya and the general population with responsive banking that seeks to address their specific needs."

The CEO intimated that UBA Bank Kenya’s strategy is anchored on continued customer engagement and extensive research and further noted that the Kenyan market remains a springboard for UBA Bank Plc. – the parent bank for UBA Kenya bank - to champion greater financial inclusion in Kenya and Africa at large.

He said that only 19% of the Kenyan population is formally banked and this calls for sustained efforts by banks to deliver services to the people.

"With the resilient economy, thanks to the political stability in the EAC region, there’s plenty of opportunity for financial institutions to develop products that will encourage people to take up banking services and accelerate growth," said Mr. Adeniyi.

Postbank Managing Director Dr. Nyambura Koigi in her remarks said Postbank is keen on leveraging its extensive network and versatile infrastructure to provide reliable services to Kenyans.

"Our primary goal is to serve the Kenyan population by rendering a range of critical banking services that will uplift livelihoods," said Dr. Koigi

She noted that Postbank has invested heavily in building infrastructural capacity and is capitalizing technology integration to diversify its service offering and ultimately increase revenues. "Our partnership with UBA Kenya Bank is timely and we see it as value addition to our clientele. We believe that with such strategic partnerships, our branches have become vital economic organs in the different counties within Kenya and we are playing a part in increasing accessibility to banking services for Kenyans," she added.

These developments come even as UBA Kenya Bank continues to solidify is positioning within the Kenyan market as an innovative bank. Recently, the bank won the 2013 ‘Distinguished Tax Payer: Facilitation – Automation Category’ award for facilitating the automation of integrated tax collection system dubbed iTax in collaboration with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) in what CEO Tunji Adeniyi described as "a deliberate effort to provide convenience that Kenyans deserve."
